How do they make (the dies that produce) plastic model kits so accurate?

How are plastic kits made! AFTER they're produced & i buy them, of course I–everybody–knows how to put them together. But how did they make those molds/dies that produce them in the first place? And how do they make the parts soooo accurate? It's obviously done by machinery & not by hand tools, right?

First the Finished Model is made out of steel or another hard material.
A Professional Tool and Die maker then takes it and using a computer , programs the Machine to follow along the hard copy of the model and pieces. As it does this it carves out the indentations that form the model pieces.
Kind of the way a Jeweler engraves a piece of jewelery.
If you've ever seen that done you will get an idea.
Some Molds are hand made by Master Craftsmen with high
quality tools. It depends on the quality and product being made , how the mold is produced.
Some Molds are only made for a certain amount of Firings, and then the molds are broken.
With only a limited amount of a certain product, they sometimes become very collectable as there are only a certain amount out there.
Hope this helps to answer your question.
Mold makers deserve a lot of credit. It's not an easy job
and they go unknown for the most part. while we enjoy the fruit of their work.
